After Darnell Nash, a homeless man, was registered to vote nine times last year using fraudulent names and addresses, a prosecutor's office has confirmed that ACORN is now part of a deeper investigation.

Democrat Ryan Miday, spokesman for Cuyahoga County, Ohio, Prosecutor Bill Mason, told Capital Research Center's Matthew Vadum "investigation is continuing into activities by ACORN. Darnell Nash is the first we've charged in this ongoing investigation."

Miday continued, "ACORN workers approached him to fill out voter registration cards and he did so on nine different occasions using different names and addresses. Then he actually registered and voted on Sept. 30 and voted with a different address, and the address was an address here in the Cleveland area in a suburb called Shaker Heights."

He said a resident at a Shaker Heights address intercepted Nash's multiple voter registration documents and alerted authorities. After Nash's vote was flagged, the board of elections held a hearing in October and ordered Nash to appear. He never showed.

"After the election ACORN had to turn over all its voter registration cards and those amounted to about 70,000," Miday said. "The sheriff's office in Cuyahoga County has been going through mounds of paperwork."

A grand jury in Cleveland indicted Nash today on felony charges of tampering with records, false registration and illegal voting. He was charged with 19 counts.

ACORN organizer Katy Gall told the Associated Press the organization did not know the man had submitted multiple registrations. However, Miday told the Capital Research Center the investigation has not ended with Nash.

"The activities by ACORN are being looked at," he said. "Through the investigation a number of employees of ACORN have been interviewed."
