    African-American Population Decreases in Franklin[TN]

FRANKLIN, Tenn.- The city of Franklin is making big strides as the city is one of the 10 most populated cities in the state, but with that population growth, there seems to be a decrease of African-Americans living there.

According to Census reports from 2000 to 2010 the African American population dropped three percent to roughly 4,300 people. Other minorities like Asians and Hispanics both saw increases more than a 300- percent.

Some say a lack of jobs and affordable housing is the cause of many African American leaving the area.

"Pretty much they have moved out of state or even to Nashville just because of less jobs and trying to live here and trying to afford the housing here," said Franklin resident, Ashley Pope. "The jobs aren't here anymore. Many of the plants that employed us aren't here anymore."

While the African-American population in Franklin has decreased, there was a slight increase in the overall number of African-Americans in Williamson County.

Or maybe they were pushed out of their jobs and affordable housing by illegals working for less and paying higher rents.
