GM to Disclose New Detroit Hires

By SHARON TERLEP

DETROIT—General Motors Co. will add 2,500 jobs at a Detroit factory to build the next-generation Chevrolet Impala, a person familiar with the plans said on Tuesday.

GM North America President Mark Reuss is expected to announce the hiring plans on Wednesday at the factory, the person said.

The redesigned Impala, a large sedan, will be built alongside the battery-powered Chevrolet Volt and soon-to-launch Chevrolet Malibu.

The additional jobs, which include bringing back laid off workers already on payroll as well as new hires, are part of the plans GM announced earlier this month to add 4,000 jobs and invest $3.2 billion in U.S. factories over the next four years.

The Impala, one of the oldest vehicles in GM's lineup, also is built at GM's Oshawa, Ontario factory.

The development was first reported by The Detroit Free Press.
