Alameda Schools Approve New Lessons About Gays

Alameda Unified School District leaders decided Tuesday night to adopt a series of lesson plans meant to reduce bullying, connected to gay and lesbian stereotypes.

The lessons would begin in kindergarten and continue through the fifth grade. They cover teasing, stereotypes and even include a story about two same-sex penguins.

The proposed curriculum has created an emotional firestorm among parents. Hundreds packed a public meeting last week.

Opinions were sharply split between critics who say the lessons are not age appropriate and supporters who say the public acceptance of gay and lesbian families is long overdue.

An Alameda Unified spokesperson said the proposals are an attempt to comply with state anti-discrimination laws.

I'm wondering when plain old people are going get this kind of defense. Of course it's bad to bully and tease but should this be taught any place but home?

I think this is the same school system that voted on taking Lincoln's birthday off the calendar and replacing it with Cesar Chavez. What is happening to this country. Since when did we decide to rewrite our history because illegals have taken over?

Why should we be foreced to allow these people to make decisions on what we want and don't want our children to be taught. Social issues do not belong is school, especially elemetry school. They need to be taught about important things like the constitution and bill of rights and the three r's. They can make up their own mind about homosexuality when they can understand what it is and what it means.
