LOS ANGELES —
An alleged leader of a Mexican crime ring wanted on gang, drugs and weapons charges has been taken into custody, the FBI said Wednesday.

Jose Manuel Garibay Felix was arrested Friday at a California Department of Motor Vehicle office in Riverside, FBI Special Agent in Charge Keith Slotter said.

The 24-year-old is accused of leading "Los Garibay," a criminal organization suspected of trafficking drugs and committing kidnaps and murder in Mexico, according to an arrest warrant filed in U.S. District Court.

A Mexican criminal complaint alleges that he directed the abduction and murder of a police officer in retaliation for his investigation of the Garibay organization.

The suspect is being held in a Los Angeles detention center while awaiting extradition to Mexico.
