Between now and Christmas, Congress is likely to spend about $9,800 per U.S. family.

The vehicle for this spending will be H.R. 2764, the Department of State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Appropriations Act, 2008. The ten other spending bills that have not been passed yet will be attached to this bill, which will be considered in the House this week.

The House is also scheduled to continue debate on H.R. 1585, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008, passage of which would cost the average U.S. family a little over $6,300.

The Senate is scheduled to continue considering farm legislation. H.R. 2419, the The Farm Bill Extension Act of 2007 would cost a little over $125 per U.S. family.
