Ann Romney Just BLASTED Democrats And Hilary Rosen On Fox

Ladies (and gentlemen, too), Ann Romney has entered her voice into the general election.

She was on Fox this morning with Martha MacCallum, discussing comments from Democratic consultant Hilary Rosen that have caused a complete firestorm in the past 14 or so hours.

Ann Romney was impressive and civil toward Rosen and began shifting the conversation to her husband's policies on women, which Democrats have been lambasting for the past few weeks in a so-called "War on Women."

Some of the key quotes from Ann Romney's appearance on Fox:

    • On her gut reaction to the initial comments: "She should have come to my house when those five boys were causing so much trouble. It wasn't so easy."

    • On her career choice as a mother: "My career choice was to be a mother."

    • On what concerns she hears from women: "Guess what women are talking about? They're talking about jobs, and they're talking about the legacy of debt that we're leaving our children."

    • On Rosen's comments this morning (SEE BELOW): "Maybe I haven't struggled as much financially as some people have, but I can tell you, I've had struggles in my life. I would love to have people understand that Mitt and I have compassion for people that are struggling. That's why we're running. We care about the people that are struggling."

On Rosen's comments that he doesn't treat women equally: "That does bother me. That is not correct at all. ... He has so many women in his circle. ... Mitt Romney is a person that admires women and listens to them, and I am grateful that he listens to me."

Meanwhile, Hilary Rosen was on CNN this morning, refusing to back down from her comments. She repeated that she was not trying to insult Ann Romney, saying that "being a mom is the hardest job in the world." And she tried to shift the subject to Mitt Romney's policies on women — to little avail.

"Mitt Romney has brought his wife into this conversation. It's not about Ann Romney. This is about the waitress in a diner someplace in Nevada who has two kids, whose daycare funding is being cut off because of the Romney-Ryan budget, and she doesn't know what to do. This isn't about whether Ann Romney or I or other women of some means can afford to make a choice to stay home and raise kids.

"Most women in America — let's face it — don't have that choice. They have to be working moms and home moms. And that's the piece that I am not hearing from the Romney camp."

The Republican National Committee also got involved, blasting out an email to supporters and press early Thursday morning. It called on the Democratic National Committee and President Obama to denounce Rosen's comments. Here's the statement, from RNC Press Secretary Kirsten Kukowski:

"Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz should immediately apologize for the insulting and insensitive comments of her adviser, Hilary Rosen. To suggest that any mother has 'never worked a day in her life,' is an affront to mothers everywhere. Democrats continue to attack Republicans for a 'war on women' even as they attack women with devastating economic policies and offensive rhetoric. The hypocrisy is appalling."

Hilary Rosen Just Made A FULL Apology To Ann Romney
    Grace Wyler | Apr. 12, 2012, 1:51 PM | 2,372 | 38

Democratic advisor Hilary Rosen has issued a full apology for her comment that Ann Romney "has never worked a day in her life."

Here's the statement, courtesy of Talking Points Memo:

“Let’s put the faux ‘war against stay at home moms’ to rest once and for all. As a mom I know that raising children is the hardest job there is. As a pundit, I know my words on CNN last night were poorly chosen. In response to Mitt Romney on the campaign trail referring to his wife as a better person to answer questions about women than he is, I was discussing his poor record on the plight of women’s financial struggles. Here is my more fulsome view of the issues. As a partner in a firm full of women who work outside of the home as well as stay at home mothers, all with plenty of children, gender equality is not a talking point for me. It is an issue I live every day. I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended. Let’s declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance.”

The apology is a major departure from Rosen's earlier responses to the flare-up. Despite backlash from Democrats and Republicans alike, Rosen previously doubled down on her comments and even penned a Huffington Post op-ed today in which she wrote: "Spare me the faux anger from the right who view the issue of women's rights and advancement as a way to score political points."

    NOW President Attacks Ann Romney

Back up the bus! After bouncing Hilary Rosen beneath the Greyhound, President Obama and friends might have to throw it in reverse again over the person of key Dem coalitioin member Terry O’Neill. The NOW president suggested to Ed Schultz tonight that Ann Romney, along with Mitt, lacks “life experience” and “imagination” needed to understand most Americans.

For good measure, in the very same segment Dem congresswoman Maxine Waters called the Republican candidate for president Mitt “Rot-ney.” Classy bunch! View the video after the jump.

Rosen cancels her appearance on NBC's 'Meet the Press'
By Justin Sink and Amie Parnes - 04/13/12 10:55 AM ET

Hilary Rosen, the Democratic consultant who created a political firestorm with her comments about Ann Romney, on Friday canceled a planned appearance on "Meet the Press."

    Hilary Rosen @hilaryr

I deeply apologize again to work-in-home moms, Mrs Romney & the POTUS. Not going on #MTP this weekend. I'm going to be a mom who stays home
The talk show teased an appearance by Rosen — who said Wednesday that Romney "hadn't worked a day in her life" — on its website and on the "Today" show Friday morning, but confirmed later in the day Rosen had canceled her appearance.

Democrats initially expressed outrage that Rosen would appear on the show, prolonging a story that has become a headache for an Obama reelection team that saw momentum with female voters reversed earlier this week once Republicans pounced on her comments.

Earlier, upon hearing the news that she was going on the show, one former Obama aide had a few choice words for Rosen. "I think it comes dangerously close to giving this silly story legs through the next week," the former aide said. "This is not good. Not good at all."

Rosen apologized for her remarks Thursday after they were widely condemned by figures on both sides of the political aisle, including President Obama.

"I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended," Rosen said in a statement. "Let's declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance.

"Let's put the faux 'war against stay-at-home moms' to rest once and for all. As a mom I know that raising children is the hardest job there is. As a pundit, I know my words on CNN last night were poorly chosen," Rosen added.

But Rosen was more defiant in her television appearance on CNN earlier in the day, where she did not explicitly apologize and was somewhat dismissive of the controversy.

"The Republicans slammed and came at this pretty quickly. People who know me know that I didn't intend that. But my words were not very good, you know, [and] if they want to play politics with it, that's fine," Rosen said.
