    Another Trade Agreement!?

    — JBS Weekly Member Update —

    Another Trade Agreement!?

We have been hammering for months on why the free trade agenda must be stopped. The two we have highlighted are the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. Yet, there is another that Wikileaks exposed back in June.

The Trade in Services Agreement (TISA) is being proposed for 23 countries (including the US) plus all of the 28 formerly independent nations of the European Union. In a nutshell, what the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has done for the US manufacturing base, TISA will duplicate for the services industry. What does this mean for you?

This means that countries in the agreement would be able to set up shop in the US and not be required to comply with the current state-specific licensing requirements for numerous occupational categories. Remember that giant sucking sound that Ross Perot predicted would occur if NAFTA was passed? It will be heard loud and clear if TISA is passed. Anyone who has to clear any type of state licensing requirement could potentially be affected, including those in the bank industry, those in the transport industry, financial advisers, insurance agents, real estate agents, accountants, and many more.

But how do you fight these agreements when they are secretly being discussed and debated? For these agreements to become law in the US, only simple majorities in both the House and Senate are required.

Congress has proposed giving the President "trade promotion authority," also known as "fast-track authority" that allows the President to negotiate a free trade agreement and then requires Congress to vote on the agreement as a whole, with no opportunity to change any part of it. We can stop them from doing so by contacting Congress. We can also stop the agreements when they are up for a vote. While Congress is not in session, now is a great time to meet with them at their home offices to get a commitment supporting American sovereignty. Let them know of your concerns regarding TPP and TTIP!

We will stay on top of this and alert you of any important opportunities to stop these dangerous agreements. For breaking information, join our Stop the Free Trade Agenda text alerts or text trade to 88588.

With your help, we will stop the free trade agenda!
