Protesters organize against health care plan

PHOENIX - Five hundred protesters lined the intersection of Scottsdale and Camelback roads outside of Congressman Harry Mitchell's office Saturday to say they don't want President Obama's health care plan.

Jim Deacon, a Republican candidate for John McCain's US Senate seat, says the plan just isn't any good.

"It's 1,100 pages of ambiguous speech that does nothing but take our rights away and take away the rights of our doctors and our patients," he said.

Marianne Schwartz of Gilbert feels that Obama's plan is just another step towards socialism, which is something she does not want any part of.

"We live in America, we don't live in - thank God - France or Europe or Canada," she said.

A man named John, who was dressed in hospital scrubs, said the plan has many problems.

"It costs too much and it will not help out the elderly or the young, and it's just not good for our country," he said.

The protesters say they targeted Mitchell because he isn't listening to them and has not said whether or not he favors the plan.
