    Bacteria in the stomach

I'm not sure if this is where I should post this. I was just concerned about something I had heard the other day. My Mom works in the Chula Vista area and one of the friends she works with was having stomach problems. So she went to the doctor and the doctor rans tests etc and informed her she had a bacterial infection in her stomach and her doctor told her that considering the area she lived in and worked in it's not uncommon. Has anyone else heard this? Especially if she eats out at any of the fast food places or restaurants, which she DID...

Thanks, kind of what I figured it to be and how you could get it. Kind of maddening.

Well, I recently saw a whole hour segment on the Discovery Health Channel.

It was about an orthodox Jewish community that was found to have tapeworm in their systems because of a horrible incident of one of boys in the community. He almost died from Grand Mal seizures. They tested him for every thing they could think of. Finally a CAT scan showed a lesion on his brain. Thinking it was cancer they were going to do surgery until another doctor said to wait. They called the CDC and told them what they were dealing with. They have a new blood test to test for the tape worm in the system. Sure enough that is what it was. They gave him medications and cured him.

They were stump as to how an orthodox Jewish boy, who doesn't eat Pork, could get a tape worm. They test the whole Orthodox Jewish community. Many had the tape worm. They look at meetings, events, anything to tie it all together. Finally, at another meeting in the boys home, the housekeeper was serving tea. The CDC rep asked if she would allow them to take her blood and test it. They did and she was the carrier of the tapeworm. YEP THAT'S RIGHT! THIRD WORLD HOUSEKEEPERS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY WITH LESS THAN GOOD HYGIENE ALMOST KILLED THIS KID. When the CDC went back to the home, needless to say she was no longer employed there.

At the end of the program, they said that this has spread throughout Oregon, Washington state, Texas and the Carolinas. If you don't think illegal immigration and hiring people from third world countries don't put this nation's health at risk, you just plain kidding yourself.

Helicobacter Pylori is a very common bacteria and can exist in many peoples stomachs. It is the cause of stomach ulcers and can be eradicated with two weeks of medications. Two antibiotics and one antacid. Works like a charm and the ulcers heal up.

However you do not indicate what sort of stomach problems and this is a unique bacteria that requires an endoscopy to collect stomach acid for analysis.

A lot of people develop GERD (gastro-esophogeal reflux disease) in their fifties, or earlier, and it can cause ulcers. Very common and requires prescription strength antacid, like Nexium or Prilosec. H. pylori is not so common but can lead to cancer, as can Barrett's Esophagus condition related to heartburn. If you have persisten heartburn that is hard to control with regualr antacids---I was eating rolls of them---go to the doctor and get an endoscopy so they can see what is going on in there! It doesn't hurt.

yeah she did have an endoscopy. I know because it's really third hand info it's not exact but that is what my mom's friend told her. It does make you more alert as to what you are putting in your system and the source of it. When the doc said COMMON FOR YOUR AREA it does make you wonder so that is why I was curious. Let's just be honest I don't like to stereotype but if it's between staying healthy or being sick I'll open my ears up and give what someone says some thought so that's why I was asking. I know that mexicans who do not speak spanish work at a walmart mcdonald's and they actually had a B rating and they had roaches and a bunch of people got sick at one time who worked at the walmart and ate there. There are cases of typhoid outbreaks plus TB across the USA putting citizens at risk. I am very concerned for the health of US citizens as for the health of my family. It is a very scary time right now, I never thought I'd have to be so worried about food contamination. But these are the times we live in and it isn't fun. Thanks to those who helped shed more light on, you guys are a very bright bunch.

UGH....... It is getting more frighting to even think of eating beef sometimes. Especially when we have undocumented workers working in the meat plants and well, haveing maybe some kind of nasty ass problem.... And maybe not wanting to take the precautions, and over looking everything.....And the nasty ness of some of these ILLEGALS that come into our Country..... UGH....
I dont even like to eat out any fast foods, because of the people who work at fast foods..... if you know what I mean..... I am just worried about the health risk that we all AMERICANS take when we eat ground beef...

    edi

I found an excellent cure for GERD...medicine didn't heal anything. 2 teaspoons of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR in 3 ounces of cold water. You can feel the coolness as the liquid goes down. It's been 5 months..I can sleep laying flat for the first time in years.
