Christian Datoc - Yesterday 4:52 PM

President Joe Biden doubled down on his calls to increase funding for police, combat gun violence, and speak power to "MAGA Republicans" in lengthy remarks on his Safer America Plan in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday.

The trip saw Biden returning to his childhood home near Scranton, Pennsylvania, and officially started his cross-country midterm election push. In addition to touting his recent legislative achievements, Biden is expected to spend the next 90 days outlining his and Democrats' proposals to fight rising crime across the country.

"For too long, too many families haven't had that peace of mind," the president opened. "They see kids being gunned down in schools and on the streets. Almost every single night, you turn on the news ... and they see their neighbors lose their loved ones to drugs like fentanyl."
Biden explained how his plan is based on one specific tenet: giving law enforcement the resources and funds necessary to engage safely in public policing.
Halfway through his remarks, the president specifically turned his focus toward school shootings. He claimed to have visited every major school shooting that occurred during his term in office and eventually urged attendees to vote lawmakers into office who will vote to enact additional gun restrictions.
Finally, Biden directly called out his MAGA Republican "friends" in Congress who continue to defend the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
"For God's sake, whose side are you on? You can't be pro-law enforcement and pro-insurrection. You can't be the party of law and order if you call the people who attacked the police on Jan. 6 patriots," Biden posed to the GOP. "I want to say as clear as I can, there is no place in this country — no place for endangering the lives of law enforcement."
