Bill could nearly double Nevadans getting Medicaid
Bill could nearly double Nevadans getting Medicaid

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The state Health Care Financing and Policy Division says the number of Nevada residents receiving care through Medicaid would nearly double by 2015 under provisions of a health care bill being developed in the U.S. Senate Finance Committee.
Just over 222,000 residents now get care through Medicaid. The total would increase by 217,000 under the national health care bill.
An amendment proposed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would keep Nevada from absorbing additional costs under the bill.
But division administrator Charles Duarte says if the amendment fails, Nevada would be responsible for 13 percent to 18 percent of the costs of adding the new Medicaid recipients. That would be in addition to what the state already pays for current Medicaid recipients.
