Marriage fraud

Marriage fraud:
Americans live in a world of many threats from abroad. One of the least understood or talked about is marriage fraud. Foreign nationals, who marry American citizens solely to gain entry into the United States.
Thanks to the Violence Against Women Act, or VAWA, safeguards that once protected U.S. citizens from this type of fraud have been largely swept away.
There are Web sites that instruct foreigners how to circumvent U.S. law by using VAWA and an abundance of attorneys who specialize in distorting the well-meaning intent of this law.
While we wage war in Afghanistan and Iraq to combat terrorism, this insidious form of terrorism is taking its toll on American citizens inside our own borders.
Don't count on help from your government or elected officials, you will be met with indifference or open hostility. Chief among this group is Sen. Sam Brownback. Only Sen. Ted Kennedy has a more liberal voting record on this issue.
This elitist group has turned a blind eye to fraud perpetrated against their own honest, hardworking citizens, while claiming to do so in the name of justice and fair play.

About 10 years ago, an acquaintance, a particularly slimy insurance salesman, tried to offer me $10,000 to marry an illegal kid from Russia, and he was shopping around for a husband for this kid's sister. After I laughed at him (the kid was 20 years younger and spoke no English), he turned around and offered a friend of mine only $5,000 to marry this kid. Goodness how his profit margin was growing!

Not to mention I was on a site where they were encouraging illegals to marry citizens and literally clean them out through divorce....especially if they had kids. Cry abuse and anything else, just to get money and maybe citizenship. Sick to think people would do that to another person.

Crazybird:
The courts and child support agencies here in the United States have not made it so children receive their money to live on the basics of life from parents.
Hunting the parent down, making them have a job, and even worse foster care pays more per child than most parents are paying per month.
Many times the child in foster care is getting medical free, free lunch, $250 in basic needs monthly, a Christmas party and gifts, via social services. I have even heard about some foster parents making the children at 16 work. Which is fine just as long as these foster parent don't abuse the child. The foster parent from my understanding gets to take the child off on their taxes if they had the child before December 31, of the following year and an entire year.
In many states the parent that has to pay; if they run to another country and after age 18 and 10 years plus that they do not have to ever pay the caring parent or state back for raising their child. (Law in NC)
Some people use children to hurt each other. So sometime the worthy and most caring parent is overlooked due to meanness and greed.
The United States is and will not fix the interior problems with support for children so why would the government fix the world's problems in this area.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Thanks PhredE, but at that time I did give him a piece of my mind and didn't think too much about it. FYI, a few years down the road, this guy was arrested by the FBI for interstate insurance fraud. (Clients would pay his one person company, and he would never forward the money to the insurance underwriter. One was a friend of his from childhood who paid him $18,000 for insuring his auto-repair business which never made it to the underwriter.)

What has been the achievement of Western European civilization: industry, morality and democracy. But now we have opened the door wide to people who do not share those same values.

One of the biggest surprises I had in marrying a foreigner was the TOTAL LACK OF FOLLOW UP! My hubby thought that it was because our apartment for the first few years of our marriage literally faced a homeland security office, but I am not convinced. During the three year temporary period, we did not have a single home visit, phone call or interview checking into the legitimacy of our marriage. I expected, and to be honest, welcomed the scrutiny. OK maybe not during the normal adjustment fights in the first year lol but any other time would have been wonderful. I am uneasy about how little they check on the validity of immigration by marriage. I am sure that this lack of oversight is spreading like wildfire in the illegal communities. This is another place we need to step up enforcement and prosecution of all involved whether money was exchanged or not.
