"I used to think Black Republicans were Traitors"

    Published on Apr 7, 2013
A native Chicogoan, now a transplant from Atlanta, speaks truth to power regarding the Democratic Party and what they've done to Black people. His remarks were made at a 2nd amendment rally sponsored by MOU and the Tea Party Leadership Fund at the Historic Swift Mansion on Chicago's southside.

There's something important here that all people need to know. I was reminded about it during the last Republican debate when the CNN panel asked our candidates what woman should be on the $10 bill. The answers were embarrassing really, but we only have our stupid Historians to blame for it.

Two candidates, Marco Rubio and then Donald Trump said "Rosa Parks." Well, that was a good answer based on written history, right? Well, no, it wasn't a good answer at all. The whole Rosa Parks thing is a scam. She was a good woman employed by the NAACP, but she did not under any circumstance end Bus Segregation in the United States. Another woman did. Her name is Claudette Colvin.

She was a young girl, a teenager, only 15 years old and she refused to give up her seat. She was arrested, along with 4 other women who followed her lead that day. She was convicted of disturbing the peace, violating the segregation law of Alabama, and assault. A lawyer, named Fred Gray, took her case with the 4 other plaintiffs and won at all levels, even all the way to the US Supreme Court, that in 1956, issued an order that Montgomery and the State of Alabama had to end bus segregation in the state, which meant it had to end everywhere.

That famous court case based on the courage of this young girl and 4 other women who followed her that day, are responsible for ending bus segregation in the South. The name of the case is Browder vs. Gayle.

Why did Rosa Parks get the attention for this when she wasn't responsible for it? Claudette was pregnant and unmarried, and the NAACP didn't want Claudette to be the poster person for the movement. So they basically got Rosa who worked in the NAACP office to get on a bus and stage it to rile up interest in the upcoming protest against bus segregation. The protest of course was canceled because the Supreme Court had already decided the issue on Claudette Colvin's case before the planned date of the protest, but Rosa Parks continued to be erroneously or dishonestly given the credit and recognition for it when she had nothing to do with it.

Claudette Colvin is 76, still alive and lives in Bronx, New York. I think someone from the Republican Party should do something to recognize this brave and courageous woman who as a young girl improved our country forever, and paid a high price for it. It was impossible for her get work in Alabama, so she moved to New York, and even there she refused to discuss who she was or what she had done for fear of it being held against her for employment. She became a nurse's aide and has worked all these years in a nursing home.

I was discussing this with a friend of mine who is for almost all practical purposes a dyed in the wool Democrat. I thought he would be interested in knowing this story because he's always ranting about how the government lies. When I told him, to my shock, he asked "what difference does it make"?

WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE? It makes all the frigging difference in the world. And the record needs to be set straight so the next time Presidential candidates are asked what woman's image should be on money, they don't answer Rosa Parks. They either answer Claudette Colvin or someone else who actually did something to earn the honor.

Even then, Claudette was not the first, she was the first whose resistance efforts thanks to Fred Gray who filed the civil rights lawsuit, had legal results. Prior to that and all throughout history, many blacks had shown the same courage, were beaten, incarcerated, and yes even worse. And while we don't know their names, they should not be forgotten, they should be remembered in some way at all times. For it was their resistance that led to Claudette's resistance that did make a difference with a positive legal result that used our laws to end this form of discrimination that led to ending many others.

I would like to see Donald Trump find Claudette and the other 4 women who followed her that day and make arrangements for them to be at one of his Rallies as Special Guests so he can honor them and the black civil rights movement of which they were such an important part and give them the honor and credit they truly deserve so that all the history books are changed and our ignorance of real facts and real events is at least somewhat reduced.

The names of the other 4 women who followed Claudette Colvin that day are:

Aurelia S. Browder, Susie McDonald, Mary Louise Smith, and Jeanatta Reese.

And of course Fred Gray, the civil rights lawyer who took their case, who is still alive and living in Montgomery, Alabama. He is 84 and was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from 1971 to 2015.

He is also the lawyer that exposed the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment and filed a class action lawsuit to obtain funding to treat the remaining 72 victims of that horrible crime, which he also won.

I hope and hope that the Trump Movement this election cycle brings all Americans together. Unions, black and Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, and White Americans, everyone who is a US citizen to unite behind some basic Republican principles of civil rights, equal rights, women's rights, workers rights and economic foundations to fix our country and restore domestic tranquility and prosperity, before it's too late.

We all need to remember that we can't fix the problems without reversing the policies that caused this disaster.
