From Haaretz: http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-d ... d-1.351377 "A bomb tied to a telephone pole exploded Wednesday at a crowded bus stop outside the International Convention Center in Jerusalem, just opposite the central station. At least 25 people were wounded in the incident, four of them seriously. All of the casualties have been evacuated to the Hadassah Hospital in Ein Karem. The Magen David Adom emergency services said that there were no fatalities. The blast could be heard throughout Jerusalem and blew out the windows of two crowded buses, No. 74 and No. 14. An eyewitness in the area at the time of the explosion told Haaretz that she heard a loud blast close to the central bus station and second later sirens began to wail and security forces rushed to the scene. Meir Hagid, one of the bus drivers, said he heard a loud explosion as he drove by the site, located near the main entrance to Jerusalem and its central bus station. "I heard the explosion in the bus stop," he said. He halted his vehicle and people got off. He said nobody in his bus was hurt." Reuters adds: "Israeli embassy spokesman in Washington issues correction, says Jerusalem blast not on bus and "apparently not a suicide attack." At last check Israel CDS were rather well bid.

A woman has been killed and at least 30 others injured after a bomb exploded near a bus stop in central Jerusalem.

Israel's minister of public security Yitzhak Aharonovich said the 1kg device was in a bag on the pavement by the bus stop.

The explosion shook buildings hundreds of metres away and blew out the windows of two buses, witnesses said.

Jerusalem suffered dozens of suicide bombings that targeted buses and restaurants during the second Palestinian uprising last decade, but the attacks had halted in recent years.

TV footage showed a number of injured people being carried away from the scene on stretchers.

The explosion shattered the windows of two buses

Meir Hagid, the driver of one of the damaged buses, said he heard a loud explosion as he drove by the site, near the main entrance to Jerusalem and its central bus station.

"I heard the explosion in the bus stop," he said. Nobody in his bus was hurt.

Jerusalem police chief Aharon Franco said there were no firm leads but authorities were investigating a possible link to a small bombing earlier this month that wounded a refuse collector as he removed the device from a rubbish bin.

The latest attack came amid rising tensions between Palestinian armed groups in the Gaza Strip and Israel.

Earlier, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad group warned that its campaign against Israel had entered "a new phase", threatening fresh strikes against Israeli cities.

Southern Israel was hit with a barrage of mortars and rockets on Wednesday, prompting a series of Israeli airstrikes in retaliation.

Islamic Jihad said it fired the rockets at four Israeli cities to avenge Israel's killing of eight militants and civilians in Gaza the day before.

Israel and Hamas, the de facto government in Gaza, have largely observed a truce since the Israeli military offensive in the territory ended in January 2009, but the ceasefire has unravelled in recent weeks.
