SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.—A man who escaped from a Scotts Bluff County work release program has been recaptured by U.S. Border Patrol agents near El Paso, Texas.
Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Jim Lawson says 24-year-old Nathan McCoy had made it to Mexico.

While returning to the U.S. on Saturday, he was stopped by the Border Patrol.

Agents took McCoy into custody after learning from the National Crime Information System that he was wanted.

McCoy was in jail for shoplifting. Authorities say McCoy stole at least three vehicles while he was on the loose.

He's expected back in Scotts Bluff County later this week.
