It is just a short boat ride to Britain......
Britain, Mexico to double bilateral trade by 2015
MEXICO CITY (AFP) – Britain and Mexico on Tuesday committed to double bilateral trade to $6.7 billion by 2015 and boost ties, during a visit by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.
"Mexico is the most open economy in this region," Clegg told a news conference after meeting with President Felipe Calderon.
"We can and we must increase our commercial ties," Calderon said.
They also agreed to set up a new British-Mexico business forum and a Mexican Chamber of Commerce in London as part of Britain's drive to increase trade with Latin America.
Clegg, who was accompanied by a top-level business delegation, said British trade with Mexico was increasing but currently represented barely one percent of Mexican imports.
The leader of the Liberal Democrats -- the junior party which governs with Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservatives -- also addressed the Mexican Senate in Spanish and met with Mexican athletes and schoolchildren.
He traveled with the vice chancellors of several British universities who also sought to win business for that sector.
Clegg was due to fly to the United States to meet with US Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday.
