Brown holds budget summit in Sacramento

Gov.-elect Jerry Brown joined legislators and state and local officials this morning for a wide-ranging and frank discussion of the state’s budget problems, reviewing the causes of the deficit and potential obstacles looming on the horizon.

A highly unusual event for a governor-elect, the summit was dubbed early on by Brown as a first, but vital step toward the state addressing its fiscal woes. It was intended solely as opportunity for Republicans and Democrats to come to a common understanding of the financial problems facing the state. Brown gave little indication of what sort of ideas he has for fixing the budget, other than expressing through out his optimism that it can be repaired.
