01-28-2017, 04:00 PM #1The Transportation Safety Board concluded that none of the tank cars in the Lac-Megantic disasters exploded. There has never been a confirmed case of a DOT-111 crude oil tank car exploding. However tank cars containing ethanol have exploded.The oil train that derailed and exploded, leveling part of the Quebec town of Lac-Megantic and killing 47 people in 2013, was made up of DOT-111 tank cars.
