Despite its dismal failure, Obama is trying to renew 1994 weapons ban with lies

In March 2009, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced his support for the return of the so-called Assault Weapons Ban. Of course, Holder is hardly alone in this wish. Shortly after he was elected President, Barack Obama announced on his official website, his desire for "making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent."

Since then, he as well as Hillary Clinton have been trying to push the idea that the drug war raging in Mexico is being fought entirely with weapons purchased in U.S. gun shops, then smuggled back into Mexico. The Mexican drug cartels can and do buy their weapons from anywhere in the world, many of them are purchased from China and South American arms manufacturers. They also steal and buy guns from the Mexican military as well as the very corrupt federal police force.

While it is true that some U.S. guns are brought into Mexico, it is a small percentage, and most of those are purchased by Mexican citizens frightened by the horrific violence now gripping that country.

The drug cartels want fully automatic weapons, not semi-automatic rifles, nor do they want .38 Specials, or 9mm pistols.

The Obama administration has claimed that 90 percent of the guns recovered from Mexican crime scenes came from the U.S. However, that assertion is completely false.

According to ATF Special Agent William Newell, between 2007-2008, according Mexico submitted 11,000 guns to the ATF to be traced. Around 6,000 of those were successfully traced. Of those, 90 percent -- 5,114 guns, were found to have originally been purchased in the U.S.

However, during that same period, the Mexican government claims that 29,000 guns were recovered from crime scenes. So, 68 percent of the guns which were recovered were never submitted for tracing. Between 5,000- 6,000 of the guns submitted, could not be traced from the remaining 32 percent. Actually, 83 percent of the guns re covered from Mexican crime scenes were not be traced to the U.S.

Contrary to what the Obama administration would have us believe, only 17 percent the guns found in Mexico have come from the U.S.

Actually, the weapon of choice among the drug cartel gangsters is the grenade. In fact, grenade attacks have become so prevalent in Mexico that last week, the El Paso Times reported a man in Juarez found a live grenade just lying on a sidewalk. Felipe Angeles discovered the model M228 grenade while he was cleaning his front yard.

Most of the grenades have been found to have been manufactured in South Korea.

Despite these truths, Obama wants to revise the failed Assault Weapons Ban.

After ten years, the politicians that voted the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban into law, could find no support to renew the ban. An attempt in 2004 by Sen. Diane Feinstein to renew the ban failed miserably with a 8-90 vote. The ban went off into the sunset because an overwhelming number of Americans finally understood it was truly useless.

The ban was actually voted in disingenuously, as the public was led to believe that it would help to take machine-guns off of our streets. Nonsense! Fully-automatic weapons come are heavily regulated and carry very expensive transfer taxes under the National Firearms Act of 1934, and there are relatively few of them in this country. You simply cannot just walk into a gun shop and buy a machine gun.

The weapons which fell under the ban, did so basically for cosmetic reasons. Weapons with folding stocks, flash suppressors, pistol grips, or that held a large magazine were outlawed. Those features cannot make the weapon fire any faster, nor do they in anyway boost the firepower.

Hunting rifles and double-barreled shotguns can be just as deadly as an AK-47. However, those weapons do not appear as ominous.

In 1994, Diane Feinstein asked her staff to come up with a list of assault weapons to place on the banned list. They got their hands on a gun catalog and went through--picking out weapons that were black and those that had a militaristic appearance. None of course, were fully-automatic.

In fact, gun manufacturers often referred to the ban as the "ugly gun law."

The ban expired in the fall of 2004. At the time, then Presidential-candidate John Kerry claimed that criminals would now buy so-called assault weapons in gun shops. Kerry failed to mention however, that those people would still have to pass a background check.

Gun control never works because the logic behind it is completely flawed. Criminals rarely purchase their weapons through legitimate gun retailers. They ordinarily buy them on the street, where they are cheap and cannot be traced. Or they simply steal them. Putting gun control laws in place, only helps to separate law-abiding people from their constitutional right to own a gun. Thus, giving the upper hand to the violent criminals.

Kerry also claimed that terrorists would flock to gun shows to buy their weapons. However, it would seem that terrorists shop at hardware stores for box cutters, more so than attend gun shows.

More civilians died on September 11, 2001 than on any other day in American history. The deadliest attack ever made on this country, took place without anyone firing a single shot or even brandishing a gun.

The Columbine High School shootings, the D.C. area sniper attacks, and 9/11 all have one thing in common--they all took place while the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban was in place.

Of course, we have no reason to believe that our current government will be satisfied with simply banning so-called ´assault weapons.´

There is great fear that those on the far left will not be satisfied until firearms of all kinds are made illegal. Why however, should people such as Eric Holder and Diane Feinstein be concerned with protecting themselves? They have armed guards to do just that. You see, our safety and protection do not matter very much to the ruling class. We merely pay their salaries.

Its not that they cant, its that they wont. Remember, they want to use a crisis to install their Marxist agenda.

I find it amazing that the USA will arm any group in any country in the world that supposedly are fighting for democracy while desperately trying to dis-arm American citizens.

Not only am I amazed but I am also fearful because I believe a dis-armed public is key to tyranny. Our right to bear arms is also our right to fight oppression.
