Three months into the state's longest budget impasse, state leaders announced Friday that they reached a handshake deal to close the state's $19 billion deficit.

At 94 days, the budget stalemate already has surpassed the previous 85-day record set in 2008.

"We want to announce we have a comprehensive agreement, that we intend to bring our members back next week," said Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, standing with the three other legislative leaders after a five-hour meeting.

Steinberg said the leaders intend to have a floor vote next Thursday.

"We'll get the votes," Steinberg said.
