CA-Letter from Feinstein Re: Sonia Sotomayor
From: "senator@feinstein.senate.gov" <senator@feinstein.senate.gov>
To: xxxxxxxxxxx
Dear xxxxxxxx:
Thank you for writing to me regarding the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to be an Associate Justice on the United States Supreme Court. I appreciate hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to respond.
As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I take my responsibility to review nominees for the Supreme Court very seriously. Although the Court's decisions may not seem relevant to daily life, in fact they can dramatically impact how our economy functions, what health care is available, whether the laws Congress passes are effective in protecting Americans from discrimination and corporate abuses, and whether people can seek recourse when they are injured by consumer or medical products.
Based on what I have seen thus far, I believe that the President has chosen a very solid and tested nominee for the United States Supreme Court. Sonia Sotomayor has been a federal judge for almost seventeen years - first on the federal trial court and then on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She also has experience as a civil litigator at a private law firm and as a prosecutor in New York City.
She would be the first Latina, and the third woman ever, to sit on the Supreme Court, making hers a historic nomination. I also believe that her personal story is a very inspiring example of the American Dream.
I appreciate hearing your views on this matter. The Senate must now take up its Constitutional responsibility to provide "advice and consent." As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I will be closely evaluating and reviewing Judge Sotomayor's record. I look forward to participating in this historic process.
Again, thank you for writing. If you should have any additional comments or questions, please feel free to contact my Washington, D.C. staff at (202) 224-3841. Best regards.
Sincerely yours,
Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator

I have been calling Sen Feinsteins office all day and can not get thru on the message line. I have been calling her office directly as the main number to congress - 202-224-3121 is always busy.
I did get thru yesterday to one of the Capital switch board operators and she said that it has been really bad the last two weeks.
By the way - Obama's rating is now 55.8% at real clear politics and 51% at Rasmussen -

Picking someone based on race (Latina what ever that is) and their sex is a dangerous way to pick keepers of the constitution.

The only thing solid about Sotomayor is her toothy, white smile--which is concealing her heartless anti-US citizen agenda.
