Redlands police arrested a British national Monday on suspicion of bilking several people out of at least $100,000.

Adam Al-Muhanna, 21, was taken into custody at the University of Redlands after he was suspected of writing a check for $100,000 to a former student on a closed account. Police say they believe he wrote other checks on accounts that were either closed or contained insufficient funds to cover the checks.

Police say at least three people gave Al-Muhanna money to invest for them, but never received a return, despite asking for the money over and over again. He is suspected of depositing the money in an account in Luxembourg.

He was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of investment fraud. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have put an immigration hold on Al-Muhanna.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Redlands police Cpl. Corey Hunt at 909-798-7659.
