CA. State senator spent big bucks in 6 years

LOS ANGELES – State Sen. Gil Cedillo spent more than $125,000 over the past six years on shopping, gourmet meals, travel and more, a newspaper has reported.

The Los Angeles Times said yesterday that among his pricey tabs, Cedillo paid $1,203 for a dinner at Patina, spent $7,022 at Nordstrom and stayed at the Four Seasons in Mumbai, India, for $829.

Cedillo said some of the expenses revealed by public records were gifts for staff, legislators and people who are important to his campaign.

Cedillo is running in the May 19 Democratic primary to fill the congressional seat vacated when Rep. Hilda Solis was named U.S. labor secretary. His election rival, Monterey Park Assemblywoman Judy Chu, has spent less than $5,000 on meals and travel over six years.
