Best Syndication News] The unemployment rate in California is the highest rate seen since World War II. The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported that the state lost 68,900 jobs last month.

California unemployment rate was higher than the national average of 9.4 percent for the month of May. Four states had higher unemployment rates than California - Michigan at 14.1%, Oregon at 12.4%, Rhode Island at 12.1 % and South Carolina also at 12.1 % unemployment rate.
However in the Inland Empire of Southern California the unemployment rate is 13.1 percent in Riverside County and 12.8 percent in San Bernardino County.

The Western States had the highest regional jobless rate in the nation at 10.1 percent of jobs lost in the month of May which is the highest rate since September of 1983.

Since May of 2008 California has lost 885,000 jobs. A year ago the unemployment rate in California was only at 6.8 percent.

California's budget crisis of a 24.3 billion dollar deficit could further cause more jobs to be cut. Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed cutting 5,000 government jobs along with cuts to social welfare and education programs to help close the short fall
