    HIGHLIGHTS

    Boxer's seat, which was once considered a safe bet for Democrats, is now clearly in play, even in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans in total voter registration.

    National Democrats appear to be worried.


    President Barack Obama will headline a fundraiser for Boxer and the Democratic National Committee in Los Angeles next month, the White House confirmed Wednesday.

    "There are some Democrats that can break out from the trends in Washington," Fisfis said. "She (Boxer) is not one of them."

    "California voters are all too aware that over her last 18 years she has stopped working for the people of this state and started working for herself - and they have had enough," Soderlund said by e-mail.

    Whew! Thank heaven. I was afraid he might not. Now I feel much better. Whenever he shows up to support someone, they lose. In Copenhagen, Virginia, New Jersey, Massachusetts......
