California leads U.S. with 13,000 startup jobs

If you’re looking for a job, you might want to consider a start-up venture in California where 12,916 job openings have been posted this year — tops in the country, reports the National Venture Capital Association and StartUpHire.com.

That was five times more jobs than in Massachusetts, the second highest state, with 2,480 positions listed.

The jobs are in a variety of industries but are heavily weighted toward software, which accounted for 11,682 or a third of all the positions. IT services was second with 7,053 jobs, business products and services, 1,939, and cleantech/energy, 1,711.

In terms of positions, engineering, product development and science-related skills made up 49% of the open jobs but there were also openings for manufacturing and operations, marketing and business development, and sales.
