California lawmakers have determined, via the state Senate, they no longer wish to see the Boy Scouts offer a non-profit organizing entity for California youth. The state Senate has voted to strip the Boys Scouts of their non-profit status as a result of the decision to stand with their policy on banning homosexuals from being leaders.
This just in.

The state Senate approved legislation Wednesday that would strip tax-exempt status from nonprofit groups including the Boy Scouts of America that deny participation of people based on sexual orientation or religion

Sen. Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) said he was glad the Boy Scouts’ national council recently decided to allow openly gay minors to serve as Scouts, but said it was unacceptable that the organization did not also lift its ban on adult leaders who are gay.

“We’ve given the Boy Scouts ample time to solve their discrimination problem and they have chosen a path that still leads to discrimination,” Lara told his colleagues.

SB 323 would strip an exemption to state sales, use and corporate taxes from nonprofit youth groups that discriminate based on sexual orientation and religion.

The state senate uses very disconcerting language in explaining their decision. Essentially, by the logic used, they could apply the same sort of law against churches who do not allow homosexual pastors. In fact, many socially leftist activists will probably immediately begin making this exact argument. If the senate has determined a non-profit cannot ban homosexual leadership on moral grounds, then should a church be able to do it?

Boy Scouts claim they will strive on… but with churches across the nation beginning to yank sponsorship, one has to wonder how much foundation will be left when the dust settles.
