Packin' up for the trip back east

Well folks, friends and compatriots, I start packing everything up this week for the trip back east. It will take some getting used to again seeing all the greenery in the midwestern states during spring and summer.

So I may not be around much over the next few weeks, but every time I get a chance to peek in I will, and comment or at least try to participate a little bit in the on-going discussions, but I fear I will have pages and pages to catch up on once I'm settled in and up and running.

So if you don't see much activity out of me for a while, I'm not bein' anti-social, just up to my ears in RL stuff.

    cv,

I was there for gram's funeral in March, and the old neighborhood is now the "hood". A far cry from what it was back in the 60s and early 70s.

Up north by Anchorville was still the same, including the old A&W, and Dairyqueen still being there. And seein' folks still icefishing on Anchor Bay, and seeing the St. Claire River was a good memories.

But the old hood, is really run down. The realestae companies have offerred about the same ammount for the old home that gramma and grampa paid for it new in 1944. Which was something like 4,000.00 for a new home in WWII. And that's about all my uncle is going to get out of it. What a real shame. I almost want to stp at one of the places to police officers go to for body armour.

So I got my insurance switched over to a new agent up around the Marine City area, since that is where my uncle is looking for a house. Which I can't complain about. Close enough to rural for hunting, and the old fishing holes are real close too. So I can load up on perch and walleye too eh.

Here's a website that will make you weep at the looks of things.

Notice the old J.L. Hudson's building? Or what's left of it. Even the old record wharehouse my mom worked at was demolished to make room for the parking lot for the Renaissance Center. She worked on the waterfront of the Detroit River back then.

Take notice of the greenbelts in the city. The city demolishes old rundown homes, and leaves them vacant lots. I've heard the geese and ducks seek these out to get away from the hunters too.

There are some classy old buildings in that guided tour. In some cities these would be treasured and turned back into boutique stores or yuppie malls, especially if they are near a waterfront.

I don't blame the Big Three for Detroit's fate; Around here I see mostly foreign cars being driven by our new liberal elite---and the American ones being sold at giveaway prices.

I'll try. I have the U-Haul set up to pick it up monday morning, and I can have it loaded up by dinner time, and then get a good night's sleep, and take off Tuesday at around 08:00. I figure with taking the southern route of I-70 instead of I-80 will probably be safer, and not that much different in distance. Maybe only 3 to 4 hours at most, as I can head north out of Indianapolis, which will get me fairly close to Ann Arbor, and then shoot east to the Motor City.

We'll jist have to see what happens and go from there. Also the departure will be based on weather conditions and predictions. I don't want to stuck hauling a boat in nasty weather.

I will miss your posts, good luck on the trip and relocation.

Check the tires on the UHaul before you sign off on it!
