CBP Officers Seizure of Heroin in Book Tells the Story
(Wednesday, April 22, 2009)
Wilmington, Ohio – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Wilmington, Ohio DHL hub last week seized an arriving international shipment containing a book with no pages, only two kilograms of heroin inside.
The international express shipment, manifested as documents, was shipped via air from Tehran, Iran and destined for a library in Toronto, Canada. CBP officers selected the shipment for an X-ray and upon physical examination Friday discovered a thick book containing no paper pages but two large plastic bags of heroin hidden inside. Each one of the two plastic bags contained a kilogram of heroin with an estimated retail value of $171,600 per kilo for a total shipment value of $343,200 in the United States.
