Calgary Church Loses Charity Status: Opposition to Abortion, Homosexuality Cited as Reasons

CALGARY, Alberta, January 21, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has revoked the charitable status of Kings Glory Fellowship (KGF), a Christian church in Calgary. CRA cites a number of issues with KGF's application, but the decision is based, in part, on the ground that certain KGF Board members have spoken out strongly against abortion, and other moral issues.

"The members of the Board of Directors espouse strong negative views about sensitive and controversial issues, which may also be viewed as political, such as abortion, homosexuality, divorce, etc.,â€

The Catholic Church needs it's tax exempt status ripped out from under them

They should also revoke the exemption for churches who speak out strongly for the same issues. Otherwise, it's a political witch hunt.

Yea, no kidding let's yank the status of all the Catholic churches pushing for amnesty for illegal aliens.

YES! YES! YES! I agree with you 110% AirborneSapper7, along with every other 501 C 3 tax-exempt not-for-profit religious; "charity"; "education"; or "cultural" organization that uses its organization in any way shape or form to impact public policy, influence legislation and determine the outcome of elections. If they want to impact public policy, influence legislation or determine the outcome of elections, then they MUST be forced to operate as a political action committee under 501 C 4 status just like ALIPAC and if they sell services for money, then a normal for-profit business.

I use the terms "impact public policy and influence legislation and determine the outcome of elections" because those are the specific terms for the prohibitions of political activity in our present laws that regulate 501 C 3 organizations. Too bad the IRS doesn't enforce our tax exempt laws any better than the Department of Homeland Security enforces our immigration laws.
