Chamber of Commerce criticizes 'public option' on insurance

The August ad wars over health care are heating up.

Here is one from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, criticizing the "public option" health insurance plan backed by President Obama and Democratic allies.

THE SCRIPT: "Washington's latest health reform idea? A trillion dollar health plan ... and a government run "public option" ... With big tax increases ... Even on health benefits ... And the federal deficit? The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says the deficit will grow $239 billion ... Inflated taxes ... Swelling deficits ... And expanded government control over your health ... Tell Congress 'let's slow down.' And reform health care the right way."

REALITY CHECK: Obama says various proposals could cost up between $800 billion and $1 trillion, but the cost is spread out over ten years. The president and Democratic allies said they do not seek government control over health care, and that people will be able to keep their current plan and current doctor. The Congressional Budget Office projected a $239 billion budget deficit over 10 years, but that only applies to a plan put forth by House Democrats. The Senate is working on its own version of health care reform, and Obama has said, "I won't sign a bill that adds to the deficit or the national debt."

I trust little the CoC says. They are looking out for their collective bottom lines and nothing would be better than having taxpayers take the burden off of insuring their employees at their expense.
I guess they just haven't had enough time to lobby Congress for what they want.
