    Chavez calls for anti-US alliance

    I thought this was interesting!

    Chavez calls for anti-US alliance
    By James Ingham
    BBC News, Caracas

Chavez has been keen to mobilise anti-US opinion in the region
Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez has called on other Latin American and Caribbean countries to form a military alliance against the United States.
The vehemently anti-US leader says Nicaragua, Bolivia, Cuba and Dominica should create one united force.

Mr Chavez, a long time critic of what he sees as US imperialism, made the comments after a summit of its leaders.

Despite constant US denials, Mr Chavez is convinced it poses a serious threat to South and Central America.

Venezuela's socialist leader has long been a critic of what he sees as US imperialism.

He has recently accused the country of trying to destabilise the region by forging stronger links with Colombia.

Mr Chavez has some key allies in his fight against capitalism, globalisation and the US.

Bolivia, Cuba, Nicaragua and now the Caribbean island of Dominica are all members of a trade alliance known as the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas, a group that takes its name from South America's independence leader, Simon Bolivar.

Mr Chavez has urged them to draw up a joint defence policy and create a united military force against US imperialism.

"If the US threatens one of us, it threatens all of us," he said, "we will respond as one."

Precisely. And, not too recently, didn't Calderon enlist the assistance of these countries in "combating" the United States enforcement of our laws against illegal aliens from Mexico and the other Latin American countries?

I'n sorry, but we're headed for trouble with these people....sooner than later I'm afraid....and what gets me is that Bush is wanting to hand them all kinds of military equipment. This stuff isn't to fight the drug and human smuggling cartels.....it's going to be used against this country.

That's what's scared me. Never for a second would I trust Mexico to be a "friend" of the US and I never understood why they would even be considered a part of a NAU.

You and I are thinking the same on this one azwreath. Especially if US immigration Policy does not ultimately benefit Mexico (think mass amnesty). Mexico has a substantial, vested interest in it's illegal's being allowed to stay an send home those remittances. Illegals cannot send home remittances if they are being deported. We already know that Calderon feels the pressure or he would have not embarked on his recent US Tour to promote his immigration agenda.

I would not put anything past Mexico, especially if we do not give them what they have been demanding. These people are not rational. Look at all the outrageous demands they make while being in this country illegally. And these demands are coming from the top down. I do not understand why our government cannot see this.

I do not have a good feeling about this. I hope i'm wrong...

Colombia says documents tie FARC to Ecuador

Colombia said today documents found in a camp in Ecuador where Colombian troops killed a top guerilla boss showed ties between the FARC rebels and Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa, including contacts with his government about political proposals.

FARC rebel commander Raul Reyes was killed inside Ecuador in a Colombian army operation that has fuelled tensions between Colombia and neighbours Venezuela and Ecuador.

Police Commander General Oscar Naranjo said documents found in computers belonging to Reyes showed contacts between a top Correa government minister and the FARC commander to discuss political proposals and projects on the frontier.

``The questions raised by these documents need concrete answers,'' Commander Naranjo said. ``What is the state of relations between the Ecuadorean government and a terrorist group like the FARC.''

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe has often accused the FARC of using Venezuelan and Ecuadorean territory as safe havens from military attacks.

The raid has sparked a diplomatic crisis, with Ecuador and Venezuela sending troops to their frontiers with Colombia. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said a similar raid on his country would be a declaration of war.

Mr Chavez also mobilised warplanes and withdrew all of his diplomats from Bogota in the worst dispute in the unstable region for years.

Mr Correa, a close ally of the leftist, anti-US Chavez, expelled Colombia's ambassador and withdrew his own envoy from Bogota in protest against what he said was an intentional violation of his nation's sovereignty.

Colombian Foreign Minister Fernando Araujo said in a televised statement that it had been "indispensable" for Colombian troops to enter Ecuadorean territory during the raid.

"May God spare us a war. But we are not going to allow them to violate our sovereign territory," Mr Chavez, an ex-paratrooper said.

Mr Chavez, who had warned a similar operation in Venezuela would be "cause for war," threatened to send Russian-made fighter jets into US ally Colombia if its troops also struck inside his OPEC country.

Colombia had no immediate reaction to the neighbours' military movements. Colombia earlier denied violating Ecuador's sovereignty, saying it acted in "legitimate defence" in response to fire from across the border.

But Mr Correa said "it was clearly a deliberate act in our territory, which is an act against our sovereignty."

Venezuela's armed forces went on alert and will support Ecuador "to the last," Mr Chavez said.

Washington, which backs Mr Uribe's fight against the rebels with its largest military aid outside the Middle East, said it was monitoring developments after Mr Chavez's "odd reaction."

France called for restraint on all sides, saying the situation underlined the need for the negotiated release of FARC hostages, including the most high-profile captive, French-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt.

This shows how messed up things are down there.

I hope Mexico does join them....That way our government will not have any excuse to call them a "friend" to the south any more.
Serve Bush with his letter of resignation.

    See you at the signing!!

I thought about that as well BFR. However, with this administration and all the pro-mexico and illegal invader lovers in congress, the hispanic cacus and what not, they would actually probably defend mexico for taking such action! They already put the needs of mexico before that of the United States.
