Police have placed a child in foster care after they found the girl in the back seat of a car whose driver they believe was drunk.

The incident happened at 12:56 a.m. Monday. Police say they stopped the car after seeing the driver run a red light at Minnesota Highway 15 and Second Street South.

The car stopped in a parking lot at 401 Second St. S, Waite Park. The driver failed field sobriety tests, police said. He was transported to Stearns County Jail.

He produced a Mexican identification that did not belong to him. The man was later identified as Vincente Cruztitla, 30, of Minneapolis. He has warrants for his arrest in Georgia, police said. Police placed the 2-year-old girl found in the back seat of the car in foster care.

Sgt. Jerry Edblad said he did not know the relationship between the man and girl, but he said they had the same last name.

Cruztitla could be charged with child endangerment, gross misdemeanor false information to police, driving while intoxicated and having an open container in the car.
