Child Porn Producer Nailed in Hollywood

LOS ANGELES -- A Hollywood man was indicted on federal charges of producing and possessing child pornography for having a collection of thousands of illegal images that included photos he took of a five-year-old girl.

Geoffrey David McCalla, 32, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles following an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). McCalla is scheduled to be arraigned on the two-count indictment June 5.

Under the PROTECT Act, which took effect in 2003, if McCalla is convicted on the child pornography production charge, he faces a minimum of 15 years in prison, and he could be sentenced to as many as 40 years if convicted on all of the charges in the indictment.

This case began when ICE undercover agents discovered a fee-based website featuring child pornography images. Payment records for the website led investigators to a retirement community where McCalla worked as a computer systems manager.

During the course of the investigation, ICE agents seized computers and computer disks from McCalla’s home and workplace and found tens of thousands of images depicting the sexual abuse of minors, some of whom were less than five years of age. Law enforcement has positively identified nearly 6,000 images possessed by McCalla as depicting known child victims of sexual assault.

Investigators also discovered child pornographic images taken by McCalla of a five-year-old girl who was placed in the Hollywood man's custody and care.
