Tibet’s living Buddhas have been banned from reincarnation without permission from China’s atheist leaders. The ban is included in new rules intended to assert Beijing’s authority over Tibet’s restive and deeply Buddhist people.

OK, here is what you have to understand about the current Dalai Lama. His birth name was Tenzin Gyatzo. The people of Tibet believe him to be the same spirit and conscieness of the original Dalai Lama from 1391 who has been reincarnated in different bodies 14 times. This means Tenzin Gyatzo is the 14th Dalai Lama. Tibetan Buddhists believe the original and current Dalai Lama to be the bodhisattva of compassion.

When Tenzin Gyatz the 14th Dalai Lama dies, Tibetians believe his spirit will pass to a young boy, the 15th Dalai Lama. Monks search for this boy and proclaim him the Dalai Lama.

Of course the Chinese Communists don't want this, the Buddhists in Tibet represent a challenge to their power.

They made it almost as hard to come back as it is for a non democratic, republican American to get their name on a presidential ballot. Almost.
