Question Citadel Considering Muslim Hijab Uniform Exception

The Citadel is currently considering granting a uniform exception to their 175-year-old dress code to allow female Muslim cadets to wear hijabs.

Please send an email to Citadel officials and politely let them know why they should not grant this request.

The Washington Post reported that “if the request for the traditional Muslim hair covering is granted, it apparently would be the first exception made to the Citadel’s uniform, which all cadets at the storied public military college in South Carolina are required to wear at nearly all times.”

There have been cadets of all religious backgrounds throughout the Citadel’s 175 years and not one of them have been granted any special privileges based on their faith. Why would they consider an exception now? It’s not about them, it’s about the entire team and the storied traditions of the Citadel.

Former Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) Director Lt. General Michael Flynn states, “Remember, the military and those institutions and programs that train our future military leaders must be standards based on what is best for the whole team and not based on what is good for individuals. The military is all about teamwork and not individual performance. Focusing on individual needs and not the needs of the team is the opposite of what is required to win on the modern battlefield.

He is absolutely correct and again, an exception to the Citadel’s uniform policies has never been considered for any other cadet before. The tradition of this well-respected military educational institution has been there for a reason and it should remain.

Lt. General Flynn goes onto say, “Will she take it off when she has to put her helmet on? Will she remove it for chemical weapons training? Why does everyone else have to adhere to a uniform standard and someone who practices Islam doesn't?

The breakdown of discipline and readiness in the military is stunning right now and continues at a pace unprecedented in modern times.

If she doesn't like to follow the rules, go elsewhere.

I could not have said it better myself. If any student doesn’t like the long-time and valued traditions of the Citadel, then he or she needs to head to another institution.

Nearly 2,400 cadets choose to attend the Citadel and willingly give up their individuality to become a part of a group that upholds the time honored traditions of the school. They don’t claim religious intolerance for not being able to wear their religion’s t-shirts or any other attire. Why? Because they understand and accept that upon attending this prestigious institution that they must adhere to its uniform requirements. If it upset them ahead of time, they would have chosen a different route. It’s all about individual choice. It’s not about forcing an institution to cave to something that is part of its foundation, and part of what makes it the exemplary educational facility that it has been for almost two centuries.

This is the politically correct nonsense that must be thrown in the garbage if we are to protect and preserve the greatness of our nation. It is very important that the leaders of the Citadel hear from you about this – in a respectful manner.

Can I count on you to lend your voice to this matter today?

Click here to send your email to Citadel officials urging them not to grant this hijab exception. We know you are busy, so we’ve done all of the work for you. All you have to do is add your individual information and your voice will go directly to Citadel officials. You can either send the e-mail as we’ve drafted it, or modify it to state the message in your own words.

Thank you for all that you do for our great nation. Always remember: if each of us does just a little, together we can accomplish a lot.

    ACTION ALERT

    Citadel Considering Muslim Uniform Exceptions

Please send an email urging the Citadel to uphold their time honored uniform requirements

Thank you for taking action on our Action Alertwe sent out this past Wednesday regarding the Citadel considering a Muslim hijab uniform exception. Thousands of emails were sent to Citadel officials expressing concern and frustration over this troubling consideration.

Due to the efforts of ACT for America and our members, Citadel officials have heard from thousands of our powerful grassroots army of passionate, patriotic citizens. We cannot stop now. We must continue to express our concerns by politely sending them an email letting them know they should not grant this ridiculous request.

For those who may have missed Wednesday’s email here, the Citadel is currently considering granting a uniform exception to their 175-year-old dress code to allow female Muslim cadets to wear hijabs.

The hijab is a tool of oppression used to alienate and control women under the guise of religious freedom. The hijab restricts women. It stops them achieving their full potential in all areas of their life, and it stops them communicating. It sends out a clear message: 'I do not want to be part of your society.'

The Washington Post has also reported on additional requests made by this Muslim student being considered, “such as a covering for the students’ arms and legs during exercise, allowing her mandatory inspections to be conducted only by females, ensuring privacy in the barbershop when getting her hair cut, and a single room.”

This is the politically correct nonsense that must be thrown in the garbage where it belongs. It is very important that the leaders of the Citadel hear from you about this – in a respectful manner.

Can I count on you to lend your voice to this matter today?

I am a female and a Veteran and I strongly oppose making a Uniform exception for ANYONE! United we stand in the same Uniform serving our Country...NOT divided. If they cannot adhere to the rules and regulations then they must be discharged from service. They knew this Uniform regulation BEFORE they signed up. Our military Uniforms define us as a Nation, it garners respect and brings the service members together as a TEAM! No excuses.
