Stalker Who Hid Under Bed Gets Three Years
Jun 21st - 2:50pm

WASHINGTON - The man convicted of stalking a woman, and hiding under her bed for days learned his sentence Wednesday.

Carlos Castellanos-Feria let himself into a woman's apartment, and videotaped intimate moments with her and her boyfriend. The first few moments of the video show him concealing the camera, then diving under the bed when she comes home.

The defense says this is a man unable to appreciate what he did was wrong. Before he was sentenced, Castellanos-Feria asked for forgiveness, and said he'd "fallen madly in love, and that affected his judgement."

Prosecutors asked the judge for a six year sentence, above the usual guidelines. The judge did not comply, saying despite what he called "cunning planning," Castellanos-Feria was a first time offender. He handed down a three-year sentence.

Judge Herbert Dixon said he hoped the defendant would use that time to realize the devastating effect on the victim.

The victim worked as director of the physical therapy program at Holy Cross Hospital, and would often utilize valet parking service. That is where she met Castellanos-Feria, who worked in the garage. Court documents report the two became "passing acquaintances," but nothing more.

While her car sat in the garage one day, Castellanos-Feria made a copy of her house key. He waited for the woman and boyfriend to leave one morning, then used his new key to enter her Northwest D.C apartment. He brought with him a camera, his notebooks, latex gloves and seven unused condoms.

When he heard the couple returning, Castellanos-Feria hit the record button and pointed the camera at her bed. After doing this a second time the following day, the boyfriend found the man and called police.

The victim says she can't sleep, and her life is changed forever.
