Money for jobless benefits running low

Money for jobless benefits running low
Some states, including S.C., seek loans from the federal government to pay the unemployed.

    New York Times

With unemployment claims reaching their highest levels in decades, states are running out of money to pay benefits, and some – including South Carolina – are turning to the federal government for help or increasing taxes on businesses to make the payments.

Thirty states are at risk of having the funds that pay out unemployment benefits become insolvent over the next few months, according to the National Association of State Workforce Agencies. Funds in two states, Indiana and Michigan, have already dried up, and both states are borrowing from the federal government to make payments to the unemployed.

In South Carolina, officials recently requested a $15 million line of credit.

“Right now we have $40 million in our trust fund, and we are paying out around $11 million a week,â€

And Obama still wants to grant amnesty to 20 million who will bring their immediate and extended family members; many who will be on our unemployment rolls when state unemployment trust funds are running dry. For an individual who campaigned on the promise of improving the economy by cutting spending, making health care available and affordable and putting Americans back to work he is doing everything he can to destroy this economy by forcing taxpayers to spend hundreds of billions of dollars for the never ending flood of cheap illegal labor into this country and their votes.

I'm going to give Obama the benefit of doubt and wait to see what he does as soon as he's in office.

I believe it will be political suicide for him to pass any amnesty/pathway to citizenship boondogle. I'm betting his handlers also know it.

I would like to hold him to his statement that the laws must be obeyed. If he starts enforcing those laws, I'll become his biggest fan.

Even a liberal such as he knows we cannot sustain millions of unskilled foreign nationals.

I saw on TV last night that 30 states have SPENT their unemployment insurance money on other things!
I am in an excellent rated state (Maine.) I'm surprized.

NOW all of us have to pay those states bill. I'm pissed !
I live in a highly taxed state and I resent paying for 30 other states unemployment issues.
I say they get a bill and pay installment payments.

I have to disagree with you Miguelina. Look at his appointment of Napolitano as Homeland Security secretary who actively campaigned for no fence, opposed all ballot measures overwhelmingly passed by a majority of Arizonans opposed to illegal immigration, vetoed several others also passed by Arizona voters, supports comprehensive immigration reform and benefits for illegal aliens and fought Sheriff Arpaio who tried to enforce immigration laws. His appointment of Claudia Munoz (vice president of LaRaza) as government affairs advisor also shows where he stands on illegal immigration. His pandering to the Service Employees International Union comprised mainly of illegal aliens and pro open borders advocates who contributed many thousands of dollars to his campaign further shows he does not have the best interests of Americans in mind. There are too many special interests at work behind the scenes consisting of the UN, Corporate America, The Mexican Government, The Chamber Of Commerce, The Trilateral Commission, The Council on Foreign Relations and other entities who are determined to forge a Socialist North American Union through the elimination of the middle class by redistribution of our wealth creating a two class socialist society ruled by the corporate aristocracy and the governed impoverished slave class.
