Responding to media requests, a new judge Thursday ordered the release of records on the arrest of James Holmes, the gunman accused of last summer's mass shooting at a Denver-area theater.
District Judge Carlos Samour said arrest and search warrant affidavits could be unsealed. KUSA-TV, published by Gannett, USA TODAY's parent company, and the Associated Press were among news organizations that sought their release.
KUSA posted the documents Thursday evening.
Arapahoe County prosecutors and defense attorneys had expressed reservations about releasing the documents.
One search warrant shows that police searching his car found a jar of bullets, a .12-gauge firearm, white powder and computer parts, KUSA said. Most of the information was disclosed during the January preliminary hearing.
Documents also show that a psychiatrist who treated Holmes told campus police a month before the Colorado theater attack that Holmes had homicidal thoughts.
Dr. Lynne Fenton told police in June that Holmes also threatened and intimidated her. The threat to the psychiatrist at University of Colorado, Denver, came more than a month before the July 20 attack at a movie theater that killed 12 and injured 70.
Samor took over Monday after Chief Judge William Sylvester withdrew. He administers courts in four counties, and said prosecutors' decision to reject a plea offer and instead seek the death penalty meant the case would take up too much time.
