MARLBOROUGH -- A Marlborough man was arraigned yesterday on charges including assault and civil rights violations, after he was accused of sideswiping a bicyclist with his car last week and pulling a knife on him while yelling racial slurs.

Marcos A. Rios, 39, of 18 Cross St., Apt. 1, was arrested last week after the incident on Mechanic Street. His arraignment was postponed until yesterday so a Spanish interpreter could be provided.

With a beer can in one hand and a knife in the other, Rios got out of his car and screamed "I hate Brazilians," at the alleged victim, according to court records. Police said Rios, who is from Guatemala, jabbed at the alleged victim with the knife multiple times but did not stab him.

Well, he is not assimilating very well.
