Courtroom Confession Cracks SJ Homicide Case

I looked but did not see this anywhere else. If anybody knows the status of these two animals, please let me know.

this is not for the weak of heart

The lawyer for the San Jose mother accused of driving her son's corpse out of state and burying it in an abandoned courtyard told NBC11 Katherine Jiminez was a battered woman.

San Jose police discovered the body of Oscar Jiminez Jr. Sunday in Phoenix. They said Samuel Corona, who was Jiminez' boyfriend at the time, beat the boy to death in February.

Ken Mande said Jiminez's boyfriend abused her.

"It was punching and choking threats. She was very much abused by this violent man," Mande said.

San Jose police released details of the slaying Monday.

Police said Corona beat the boy over something he said to his 1-year-old son who was visiting their home in San Jose on Haze Street.

Corona said to Katherine Jiminez at the time, "Say goodbye to your son," according to police.

Police said after Corona killed the child, the couple put his body in a sleeping bag and drove it to Phoenix in a Mazda 626.

San Jose Police Chief Rob Davis said the couple put the body in a plastic bag and buried it in the courtyard of an abandoned apartment complex.

Davis said Corona returned to the site days later and covered it with concrete.

A news helicopter flew over the scene where the boy's remains were discovered and showed a pile of dirt and what appeared to be several pounds of broken concrete in the back area of a single-story row of apartments.

Corona is in custody in Arizona and will be extradited back to San Jose soon, police said.

The Phoenix Police Department was contacted by San Jose police Sunday, NBC11 reported.

San Jose detective flew to Phoenix and with the help of their Phoenix counterparts, they located the body of the victim under concrete in the back courtyard of a vacant apartment at 5105 N. 39th Avenue (map).

Davis was very emotional as he told reporters about the slaying, NBC11 reported. His voice broke several times during the short news conference.

The death of Jiminez came to light recently when Katherine Jiminez was asked in court where her son was and she said he was dead.

The boy's father had been trying to see his son since March, NBC11 reported.

He filed a complaint claiming Katherine Jiminez had abducted the child.

Santa Clara County investigators said they arrested the boy's mother in Southern California in late August and that lead to the unraveling of the case.

On Friday, police raided the San Jose home where they say Jiminez Jr. was killed, NBC11 reported. A woman who lives at the home said police pulled up carpet and took out a set of closet doors.

San Jose police officers are still in Phoenix working on the case, Davis said.

It is San Jose's 19th homicide of the year, police said Monday.

Call the San Jose Police Department and ask about the immigration status. Speak to the Public Relations Officer. Get their name and post it if you get a conformation.

They told me they have a "don't ask don't tell" policy. She was very polite, but was totally convinced that whether they were here legally or not had no baring on the case. I could not understand what she was saying her name was, she too had a heavy accent.
