Gorilla Suit Actor Shot Full of Tranquilizer by Trigger Happy Zoo Staff

A man selected to play the role of a gorilla in a drill at the zoo got more than just his costume. It seems an over zealous employee unloaded on him with a full tranquilizer dart designed to take down a 400 lb gorilla.

This was a bad mixture of stupidity, poor communication, and ill planning at a zoo. They were lining up to conduct an emergency drill. Many zoos dress people in gorilla suits to conduct ‘escape drills’, but not usually with live ammo. Initially, the 35-year-old was reported by the Daily Mail to have been shot while wearing a gorilla suit. As it turns out, what actually happened was even worse.

According to the Spanish news papers, a zoo veterinarian who was not informed about the drill spotted the man with the gorilla suit and shot him with a full tranquilizer dart loaded for a 400 lb gorilla. He was found in his underwear and flown to the emergency room.

According to the New York Daily News, he suffered an allergic reaction which was caught just in time when he arrived at the hospital.

The Daily Star reported he is expected to fully recover. They received a statement from the zoo staff.

“One keeper in the wild mammals team was accidentally struck by the medical tranquilizer that vets use in these instances…He recovered and is now in good health.

“Loro Parque, like all zoos and animal parks, regularly carries out this kind of emergency drill. The measure is designed to improve security, emergency procedures, and to train staff who work in these enclosures.”

Although it was originally reported by several news sources that he had been actually wearing the suit, that doesn’t seem to be the case. According to the latest statement from the zoo to the Express UK, the employee was accidentally struck when the alarm sounded. It really makes you wonder what he was thinking. How do you even mistake a man carrying a costume as a 400 lb gorilla? Do they normally shoot people with fully loaded darts for these drills?
Did anyone else have flashbacks to the 1980′s movie Trading Spaces? I know I did. Guess we already know who will be a recipient of this years Darwin Awards.

Fights don't often go well outside of a boxing ring, but that doesn't keep people from attacking other people and things when they get angry. These people have decided to take out their aggression on just about anything near them. Whether it's a friend, a loved-one, a table, a trash can, a bush, a wall, a window or anything else, they'll punch and kick it as hard as they can.
