Dominating the news over the last couple of days has been the story of AIG executives receiving millions in bonuses. This, of course, is the same company that has received billions of dollars in taxpayer funds in order to stay afloat. Remember... it was one of those entities that was "too big to be allowed to fail."

When word of the bonuses spread through the media and the Internet, the outrage spread even faster. President Obama blasted AIG for doling out the bonuses. Democrat Sen. Chris Dodd also blasted AIG. Everyone was trying to score political points with the American public. As it turns out, it was all just bad theater and false outrage. Obama, Dodd, and company knew about the bonuses months ago. The bonuses were written into the legislation. And now that the American people are upset, the Democrats are expressing outrage too? Get real!

In a speech this week on the economy, Obama took a few moments to blast the AIG executives. However, as this video points out, the "outrage" was not because of the action of AIG executives. The Obama team already knew about the bonuses. Obama is simply expressing his "outrage" because everyone else is.

Sen. Chris Dodd is the one responsible for putting the bonus language into the stimulus bill. It was his amendment. However, after first denying that he did this, the Democrat from Connecticut is now saying that the Treasury Department made him do it.

    As CBS News reports:

[O]utrage is disingenuous coming from lawmakers who have known about the pending bonuses for months.

In particular, it's disingenuous coming from anyone who voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (a.k.a. the Obama stimulus package). The stimulus bill included provisions to limit executive compensation at companies receiving federal bailout money. But it also stated explicitly that the limits would not apply to bonuses agreed to prior to Feb. 11, 2009.

For several days, news organizations have been trying to determine who put that clause in the bill. The Treasury Department, reeling from the bad PR associated with propping up AIG while letting the bonuses go forward, pointed its finger at Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee.

So, let's follow this... Our fine Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and his team knew that including the AIG bonuses would be problematic but did nothing about it. No outrage, nothing. Instead, they pressured Sen. Dodd to add a loophole for AIG. Dodd included the provision, then denied doing it earlier this week, but when Treasury hung him out to dry, he admitted he did it but said Treasury made him do it. All the while, Obama, Geithner, Dodd, and others were jumping up and down against the actions of AIG.

As Fox News, the Senate Republicans are already moving to capitalize on Dodd's actions, reactions, statements, and restatements.

"Senator Dodd's reversal on this issue is both astonishing and alarming," the National Republican Senatorial Campaign said in a written statement. "Contrary to his statements and denials over the last 24 hours, Senator Dodd has now admitted that he and his staff did in fact change the language in the stimulus bill to include a loophole for AIG executive bonuses."

The group added that Dodd had "misled voters and equivocated on his statements."

So what happens now? I'll tell you... a lot of scary ideas! As reported in an Associated Press story running on GOPUSA, the Democrats are considering levying taxes of up to 90% on bonuses paid to employees with family incomes above $250,000. This is wrong, wrong, wrong! You don't raise taxes on people simply to cover your own mistakes!

Even scarier is an idea being floated by the Obama administration of creating a "resolution authority" which would "seize giant institutions like AIG -- including all their toxic assets -- whose collapse in normal bankruptcy could cause calamity in the financial markets." Who decides if a company's collapse would cause a "calamity?" The Obama government, of course. Sounds like more moves toward government takeover to me.

Finally, I would be remiss not to mention how crazy this "outrage" is by Congress when they continue to waste and waste and waste. Brent Bozell covers the topic perfectly in his latest column. Remember this gem of video by liberal Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer?

So, when you look at the billions given to AIG, the bonuses given to executives are a very, very small percentage. Congressional Democrats and Obama are outraged by this. Yet, the budget and stimulus bill were loaded with "porky" amendments that amounted to billions of dollars, and Congress wants us to ignore them because they amount to a small percentage of the bill. Outrageous! It's the same concept! Wasteful spending is wasteful spending!

Here we go again! More LIES LIES LIES and LIES, I think it obvious that the thieves are rubbing each others backs. He needs to resign, and all of his money taxed at 90%, and no free health care too!
