Just a few days after Hewlett-Packard made a rival $24-per-share bid for enterprise storage maker 3PAR, Dell, the original suitor, upped the ante to $24.30 per share, a bid worth $1.6 billion. 3PAR approved the bid.

HP had not responded at press time.

HP already owns iSCSI specialist Lefthand Networks, which it bought in October 2008 for $360 million. Dell previously bought iSCSI storage maker EqualLogic. 3PAR originally staked its reputation on its scalable, dependable thin-provisioning feature.
