A democratic Iraq in the middle of non democratic countries

A democratic Iraq in the middle of non democratic countries will not hold or spread. Those surrounding countries have dictatorships, kings or a theocratic societies.Bush did not have a dream, he had a nightmare that became a reality.
Iraq will only survive under another dictator, king or theocracy. The only country, in the Middle East that is relatively a democracy is Turkey.
We cannot fight a civil war. We cannot fight suicide bombers that are ready to come into Iraq. 10,000 are ready and more being trained. IEDs, our troops cannot fight and they were not trained to fight a civil war. More troops will only more U.S. casualties. Terrorist, Sunni, Shiites, gangs and thugs, and God only know who else is killing our troops. We need to withdraw our troops yesterday and Iraq will resolve it’s problem. It always have. We cannot force upon them what they don’t want by killing them.We will not win the war on terrorism unless we fight from within our country, we are creating more terrorist by invading and occupying Muslim land, where they have the God given right to protect from aggressors. The war against terrorist was not Iraq, but we have made it Iraq.
Many supporter of this war say there is progress because Iraq is being rebuilt. Progress like that means nothing if the country is in the middle of a civil war with no stable government or military. We train our troops in 6 week and send them to Iraq, but we cannot train Iraqis in 4 years. The Iraqi government is corrupt and so is its military.
We cannot fight terrorist by occupying their land or with guns and bombs, money and more of the same that have not worked and will not work. This is not a John Wayne movie we are fighting in. We have not won the war here against racism, drugs, poverty, illegal immigration or even terrorism that is alive and well here. How can we expect to win anything any where else?
We are no longer a all knowing and all powerful nation.
We all support our troops, but we are asking the impossible from them and their families and the price they have to pay is too high. When we lose one of our own, we all lose. We lose our future.Terrorist have been here longer than we have and they will still be here when we are all gone.
We opened this Pandoras’s Box and we do not know how to close it. We lost this war a long time ago when it began.

never going to happen. It is in the middle of a religious war that has been going on for thousand of years and both sides have too much outside support.

Thank you for your words of defeatism. It occurs to me that the same thing was said of Reagan's attempts to win the Cold War - that it could not be done - that Eastern Europe could never be reintegrated into the West. Whose are the most vigorous economies of the New Europe? Who are among our staunchest allies?

Attempting that which is said to be impossible may or may not result in failure. Not attempting it means certain failure.

The war in Iraq cannot be compared to any other war that I know of in history.
Let us win the war on poverty, drugs and racism that we have been fighting for years and we know who the enemy is.
Who is the enemy we are fighting in Iraq? We do not know all the factions we are fighting or why. How and when are we going to win a war that is not our to win?

Hmmm... we didn't exactly know who the enemy was during the American Revolution, given that there were loyalists sprinkled throughout the colonies. The same was true to some extent of the Texas Revolution, where some of the Mexicans in Texas were loyal to Santa Anna while most were not. In WWII in France, some of the French were collaborators working with the Germans while most embraced their liberators. And few could say that a war such as WWII fought in its entirety well beyond the borders of the US was "ours to win" other than the fact that we had strategic interests at stake and that our military had been attacked. In this war, our national and strategic interests are at stake, we have had our military attacked several times by the Islamic terrorists, and we have had our mainland attacked by Islamic terrorists.

There have been numerous wars in which the enemy was less than perfectly defined and there have been other wars that were less than "ours to win," but in those cases we were not hamstrung by political correctness and internal enemies and defenders of those who have clearly declared war on us (such as yourself). You wouldn't be able able to get away with your blatant appeasement in another day and age. The fact is that there is nothing wrong with this was except that you don't like it because you are a Muslim sympathizer. The extremes to which you will torture logic to defend the enemies of the West is, quite frankly, shocking. it certainly is no less shocking than the absurd defenses offered up by the OBL on behalf of the illegal aliens.
