2 arrested in alleged plot to attack Seattle recruiting station

Two men have been arrested in what the Justice Department says was a plot to attack a military recruiting station in Seattle.

Update at 3:58 p.m. ET: The Justice Department said "a citizen" alerted law enforcement that he/she had been approached about participating in the attack and supplying firearms, and agreed to cooperate in the sting. Authorities began monitoring Abdul-Latif and Mujahidh, and since early June discussions about a "violent assault" on the Military Entrance Processing Station, in South Seattle, were captured on audio and video.

The suspects are due in federal court today for initial appearances on terrorism and firearms charges.

Update at 3:44 p.m. ET: Abu Khalid Abdul-Latif, aka Joseph Anthony Davis, 33, of Seattle, and Walli Mujahidh, aka Frederick Domingue Jr., 32, of Los Angeles, were arrested last night, the Justice Department said in a news release. They are accused of buying machine guns from a person working with the FBI and planning an attack on the Military Entrance Processing Station on East Marginal Way. Besides the guns, which had been rendered inoperable, the pair also allegedly planned to use grenades, the Justice Department said.

The original target was Joint Base Lewis-McChord, near Tacoma, but the defendants later changed targets, the Justice Department noted.

Besides processing enlistees, the Seattle station houses a federal daycare center.

Suspect in Seattle terror plot has San Diego ties

SAN DIEGO — A Seattle man charged this week with trying to pull off a terrorist attack on a military-recruit processing station in Washington had a troubled childhood in San Diego, according to court documents.

Abu Khalid Abdul-Latif, 33, a converted Muslim also known as Joseph Anthony Davis, was charged Thursday along with a Los Angeles man, Walli Mujahidh, 32, on allegations that they bought machine guns and grenades from a police informant with plans to storm a military processing center in Seattle.
