Sen. Christopher Dodd has been diagnosed with early-state prostate cancer, FOX News has confirmed.

The Connecticut Democrat is scheduled to have surgery during the Senate's August recess, the Hartford Courant reported Friday.

Dodd told the newspaper he expects to be back at work after a "brief recuperation" at home.

Dodd will hold a news conference Friday at 2 p.m. in Connecticut to announce his prognosis.

"He'll be fine," sources told FOX News.
