PANAMA CITY, FL (WJHG/CNN) - For the second time in a week, an unmanned drone has been destroyed at Tyndall Air Force base in Florida.

A QF-4 drone crashed during take-off Wednesday morning, and landed near a highway.

Witnesses said the drone exploded, sending up a huge black cloud of smoke.

According to the base, no one was injured in the crash, but the highway is expected to be closed for up to 24 hours.

Base officials say the QF-4 was carrying a small self-destruct charge and they are not sure if it detonated during the crash.

The charge is powered by a battery which will be fully depleted in 24 hours.

Last Wednesday, July 10, another QF-4 drone self-destructed over the Gulf of Mexico.
