2 U.S. Marshals and an Officer Are Shot in the West Village

Two federal marshals and one New York City police officer were shot Monday afternoon in the West Village, authorities said.

A suspect was also shot.

The three law enforcement officers appeared to be in the process of executing a warrant at or near the corner of West Fourth Street and Jones Street, the authorities said. But it was not immediately clear what brought them to that location or if the person they were seeking was involved in the shooting.

A previously scheduled briefing by the police commissioner and the mayor was delayed and they were conferring with aides.

An NYPD detective and two US Marshals were shot in a wild firefight inside a smoke shop in the heart of Greenwich Village on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The officers were trying to nab a fugitive behind the counter of the Smoking Culture NYC shop at 177 W. 4th St., between tony Barrow and Jones streets around 1 p.m. when bullets started flying, law-enforcement sources told The Post.

The detective was shot in the stomach, while at least one of the marshals was grazed by a bullet, sources said.

“It appears that the injuries to the officers are not life-threatening,” Mayor de Blasio said.

The officers — all of whom work for the federal Fugitive Task Force — were rushed to Bellevue, sources said.

The suspect, who also was shot, died of his wounds, sources said.
Shortly after the gunfire, a heavily tattooed man was taken from the shop on a stretcher as emergency workers performed chest compressions on him. It’s unclear if he was the suspect.
